At the beginning of movement, the teeth relapse partially during the day, but as the weeks pass, the relapse decreases and the teeth progressively advance to their planned position. The information is accumulated in the tissue because the force is very physiological.
Teeth move through life by very small forces from the tongue, lips and facial muscles. Changes in the tonus of facial muscles in adults, as a result of stress and tension can create new crowding and mal-alignment. Application of intermittent forces on the teeth mimics the physiological alignment of teeth after eruption.
The concept of the permanent force is a result of the fact that braces cannot be removed. However, if the force applied to the teeth is optimal and physiological, it does not need it to be applied 24/7.
From the biological point of view, it is better to use interrupted forces in orthodontic tooth movement. The hours with no force enables the PDL tissue to recover from the trauma of orthodontic force and renovate the blood supply.

The idea of a pulsating type of orthodontic force has been clinically proven. 
Studies have further proven the benefits of pulsating force compared to continuous force. The Zsmile device features a programmable application of pulsating force determined by the doctor. This enables prescribing each patient an accurate force level and pulsating cycles according to the initial progress of teeth movement. Based on previous clinical and research data, applying pulsating force does not result in  blood vessel occlusion, which is a normal phenomenon when using constantly applied force.  Pulsating force does not cause hyalinization areas in the PDL and therefore there is less risk of root resorption. Another advantage is the fact that when using pulsating force, there is no desensitization of biological reaction in the tissue, which occurs in constantly applied force.
Throughout the treatment with Zsmile, the patient feels no pain and the tooth movement is optimal.

The treatment duration varies according to the case complexity and individual variability. In general, the treatment time with Zsmile is analogous to treatment time with braces, however the appliance should be worn for 10 hours a day only, which is actually less than half the time of any other treatment.
Because the pulsed air pressure works more effectively than constant force, only approximately 10 hours per day of active treatment is needed. The rest of the time, patients are free from any orthodontic devices.
The Zsmile system is designed for primary use while at rest. It is the most comfortable and easiest way to perform treatment. If more time is needed to complete the ten hours per day, patients can elect to complete the time when it is convenient for them, while watching television, working on the computer, studying, etc.

Using the Zsmile system for less than 10 hours a day, might slow down the progress of your treatment. Each individual has a minimum threshold. Treatment hours below this point will render the treatment ineffective.
Children under the age of 13 can use the system for a minimum of only 8 hours a day.

At least 20%-40% of the children, who use braces to straighten their teeth, can benefit from the Zsmile system. Suitable cases for treatment with Zsmie can be children with malalignment in the 6 front teeth only. Phase 1 treatment.
HG/Thurow can be added in Class II cases.

The Zsmile system is suitable for patients of all ages. It is suitable for Class 1 and 2 malocclusions, including crowding, rotation, proclination and retroclination. The following movements are supported: tipping, uprighting, rotation, torque, intrusion and extrusion. It offers a very compelling option for Phase I treatment in young children. In addition, Zsmile can be combined with TB, HG and sectional braces to expand the range and efficacy of these treatments.

No. The pulsating action mimics human physiology. When treatment begins, patients may feel slight pressure. Thereafter, the orthodontic force is set at minimal and gradually increased without further pain or discomfort. In fact, it is the first orthodontic appliance in the world that allows doctors to record the force level throughout the entire course of treatment.

Yes. It is completely safe to leave the unit plugged in. The unit complies with the strictest medical device regulations and standards, including ISO 60601-1, ISO 13585:2003 that permit connection to the electrical current during treatment.
During the awake hours the appliance can be used without connection. The internal rechargeable batteries last for approximately 4-6 hours of operation.

The Zsmile system is suitable only for alignment of the front 8 teeth, from premolar to premolar. The complementary treatment of posterior teeth can be done with partial posterior aesthetic braces, S-elastics, Quad-helix etc.
Over 90% of the adults are interested in esthetic treatment only for the frontal area of the mouth, which is basically the esthetic zone.

Not all potential cases are suitable for the Zsmile treatment. Each and every case is pre-examined by the Zsmile orthodontist. We will not start a case unless we are sure that it is suitable and will end up successfully.
It is important for us to have a successful completed treatment and not just to achieve another case, however it is important to mention that since the appliance is not permanent on the patient teeth, his cooperation and self-discipline is essential for the treatment success.

After having conversations with patients undergoing the treatment and patients who have completed it, we can conclude and say that there are 3 days of adaptation to the control console and to the appliance. Following the adaptation period, the patients appreciate the benefits of a discreet treatment and the fact that they can wear the appliance at their convenient time and during the night.
The tube does not disturb the patient’s sleep. We have not received any complaints in this matter. The tube is long and flexible and the patient can move easily and regularly without any distortions in his sleep.
All orthodontic equipment requires an adjustment period where the majority are for long run, however the Zsmile system requires only few days (approximately 3*) of adaptation. Afterwards the patient gets a much more convenient treatment compared to all other options.

No removable appliance reaches the precision of treatment with braces. The tooth position is better controlled with braces. For this reason, in 5% of cases, braces can be bonded for 4-6 weeks in order to achieve the final desired precision.

In case the patient is on a break from the treatment during a short vacation, illness, etc, the relapse is relatively small and he can always go back to the treatment with the same appliance, unlike in other treatments, in which sometimes there will be need to take new impressions.
